After years of trying out products for my hair to get it to grow long, I discovered that the secret to having really (and I mean really) long hair was not only “which products should I use?”, but also, “which should I avoid?’. Given how the modern haircare industry here in the west doesn’t actually want your hair to be long, they just want dependent customers, it took me rethinking how much I listened to the myths and lies perpetuated by decades of their adds. It took me reclaiming my own sense of worth and identity.

We aren’t defective and in need of a product “fix”.

I didn’t have bad hair. You don’t have bad hair.

Our bodies and hair simply need some TLC. Some time to get back on their own feet.

It may sound like a foreign concept, but it speaks to how you view your body and your mindset on hygiene. Instead of treating hair as a fashion accessory, why not consider it a very part of yourself? Instead of thinking of your body as defective, broken, dirty, or messy, why not give yourself a chance and see how well your body can shine all on its own?

Your body is rather capable of regulating itself. The unfortunate reality is that a lot of modern haircare products are designed with the assumption that you won’t grow your hair past your shoulders. Yikes! To get the quality and health I sought for my hair, I realized I had to fundamentally change how I took care of my hair, and this included ditching modern-Western notions, and adopting historical western and eastern methods, on how to care for my hair.

While I have in my blog the “why”s and “how”s of my haircare routine, on this page you will find the list of what I use on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. Because I consider health to be a wholistic idea, you will also find some products that I incorporate into my diet as much as you will find products directly intended for my hair.

While I work to individually list them in this page, here is my Amazon list, something I try to keep updated based on what products stand the test of time.

These products include Henna for conditioning my hair (a non-damaging way to tint your hair for different “glows” when the sun hits it), MSM for basic nutrition and reduction of inflammation, and smooth fabrics in accessories for reducing friction on my hair at night. I also include the hairbrushes that I use, though some I had found at a local store rather than purchased online. These lists allow you to see what they are and then chose the seller you prefer best (Natural Grocer is one of my favs, just sayin).

Thank you for joining me and let me know if any of these are items you enjoy. Over time I’ll continue to write about how I use these and what they’ve done for my hair.
